Venus Kii Thomas (xe/xym) is a queer Black trans writer, multidimensional artist, creativity doula-in-formation, reiki practitioner, and abolitionist, whose work spans poetry, music, publication, history work, theatre, visual art, erotica, movement, and spirituality. Rooted in storytelling and healing practices, xyr creations explore identity, memory, resistance, and liberation intersections, offering a deeply personal yet universal vision of transformation.
Venus’s work has been featured in Nameless Woman: An Anthology of Fiction by Trans Women of Color (which xe co-edited), Queer & Trans Artists of Color Vol. 3, Radical Trans Poetry Vol. 1, and The Black Trans Prayer Book. Xyr devotion to art as a tool for liberation has also been shaped by serving as a TransFire Artist-in-Residence at the Acorn Center for Freedom and Restoration (2023-2024), which concluded with a historic multidisciplinary production of RITUAL at the Fabian Barnes Black Box Theater in Washington, DC. In 2025, Venus served as one of the inaugural Art + Tech Fellows for Garden, a virtual community center for BIPOC practicing pandemic safety, and mounted xyr first virtual installation, RETRIEVAL.
Xyr artistic practice integrates reiki and spirituality and is guided by xyr beginnings in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and experiences with academic and spiritual indoctrinations. It bridges the physical and metaphysical to create radical healing and reflection spaces. As a storyteller, Venus challenges societal norms and invites audiences to “kill the cop in their head,” to embrace their full selves, and to envision collective futures beyond oppression. Xyr art is a testament to the power of art to dismantle, rebuild, and dream anew. to the power of resilience, creativity, and the deep work of healing and liberation.
